Chameleon House Youth Conference 2024

With funds from the Commonwealth Bank, Chameleon House held a Youth Conference on October 4, 2024, at the Redcliffe Leagues Club, where over 170 passionate youth and community workers gathered to hear from leading professionals in the youth sector. Songwoman Maroochy attended and delivered a thought provoking Welcome to Country. Then our Master of Ceremonies, Lucas Stibbard, from the City of Moreton Bay guided attendees through a thought-provoking day featuring esteemed speakers such as Professor Silke Meyer from Griffith University, who explored the impact of domestic violence on youth, and Karl Lacis from Dovetail, who shed light on current drug and alcohol trends affecting young people.

Participants also heard from Meegan and Charleen of Youth Justice, discussing the latest youth crime statistics and innovative programs, while Jade from the Department of Housing provided insight into resources available to assist young individuals with housing challenges. Additionally, Trent Savill from Complex Care highlighted the profound effects of trauma on young minds and their responses, sparking critical conversations about resilience and support.

The conference fostered a collaborative spirit among those dedicated to serving young people, with all attendees committed to strengthening future partnerships in the sector. To energize the day, each participant received a coffee voucher from Zaraffas Deception Bay or Mango Hill, and the Deception Bay store generously donated a lucky door prize, adding an extra layer of excitement to this impactful event. The day was immortalised by our photographer, Terri Hanlon, who captured countless memorable moments. Together, we are paving the way for a brighter future for our youth!
