Who we See

Over the past 5 years 184 total people have been housed by our service - mostly young people between 15 and 25yrs old.  The children in our service are the children and babies of the young families we house in our broader program.  We also took on a short term role during the Covid pandemic of housing older people who were homeless, so the number over 25yrs would not usually be so high.  And these numbers do not include the people we provided emergency accommodation to during the 2022 Brisbane floods whose houses were inundated with flood water and unliveable.

How We help

70% of people were actually without any home at the time of coming to Chameleon House coming from short term or emergency accommodation and 9% of those were sleeping rough including in tents, cars and parks.

Along with safe housing, all young people at Chameleon House are offered the support to create and plan and implement life goals that value them and their futures and help them to value themselves. 95% take up the offer of support and the help required to achieve their goals.

The key goals are to eventually transition to sustainable and safe housing and have meaningful employment or education and training.  Other goals include learning life skills such as budgeting, healthy eating and cooking, household management tasks and access to health and well being services that will provide longer term life support.

The graph below shows the huge impact Chameleon House has on the young people who call it home.  When our young people leave it is with a stronger sense of self and the knowledge and skills to support them in life.

We are enormously proud of the young people who head out into the world after the time they have spent with us.
